btw I think what Anonymous #1 means by 'number one crop' is that hemp can be used for pretty much all facets of human life, food, textiles, fuels, fabric, shelters, etc.
It's also good for the soil and can produce around 120 times the amount of pulp as a usual forest plantation, hemp can be harvested 2-3 times a year in good conditions (starting from year 0), whereas a forest plantation takes around 20 years to produce.
Hemp also produces around 4 times the amount of fibre as a cotton plantation of the same size.
All this and it requires less water, less pesticides/fungicides, and is a whole lot more resistant to droughts etc (making is a very viable crop for arid regions).
It can also be used a a rotation crop to improve soil conditions for other crops.
Hemp seed can also be used for a huge variety of things and is very nutritious, great for making cooking oil or lubricants.
